“Teacher Education Through Partnership and Collaborative Learning Communities”
With the objective to promote and support continuing and career long Professional learning of Teachers and Teacher Educators, a daylong National Conference on the theme “Teacher Education Through Partnership and Collaborative Learning Communities” was organized here today i.e. 06.02.2016 at Partap College of Education, Ludhiana. It was sponsored by College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh and conducted under the patronage of International Professional Development Association (IPDA) India, amidst a galaxy of dignitaries of national and international acclaim. Mr. Narinder Pal Verma, Deputy Director, SCERT (Punjab) Mohali presided over the conference and expressed his gratitude towards Partap College of Education for being the first institute to develop collaboration with SCERT. He also assured that SCERT would soon organize some workshop or conference in this institute of excellence.
The conference opened with the welcome address by Dr. Sangeeta Sood, Coordinator, Partap National Conference. Prof. S.K. Yadav, Academic Consultant, NCTE, New Delhi and Prof. Saroj Yadav, Dean Academic, NCERT, New Delhi delivered the Key Note Address. In his Key Note Address, Prof. S.K. Yadav emphasized upon Teachers’ Career Long Professional Learning through intellectual deliberations. He further added that the need of the hour is to integrate schools and teacher training institutions and to develop partnership among theory, practicum and internship. Prof. Saroj Yadav said that Collaborative Learning is possible only if we promote logical communication & Questioning Skill among the Learning Communities and most importantly, focus on cooperation rather that competition.
Dr. Ramesh Sandhu, Vice Chair, IPDA India and Dr. N. R. Sharma, Dean Faculty of Education, Panjab University Chandigarh acted as Chief resource persons during this conference. More than 150 delegates from different Educational institutions across the country deliberated extensively and put forth their views convincingly on the following sub themes:
- Teacher Education through Collaborative Partnership.
- Mentor Support and Challenges for Teachers’ Professional Learning.
- Approaches and Modes for Partnership in Learning and Teaching.
- Developing Learning Communities.
Parallel sessions were conducted on the said themes.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balwant Singh, Principal Partap College of Education, said that Teacher Education is the back bone of any society. The quality of Human Resources of a country is determined by the quality of Teacher Education. If we are to survive in this competitive, market oriented and technology driven world where education is at cross roads, there is no existence without Developing learning Communities and collaborative Partnerships. Moreover we need to go beyond the narrow job culture to sound professionalism to discharge our duties as nation builders. Our ability to face the challenges of the 21st century will depend on our capacity to learn and unlearn-as inquisitive individuals and as learning communities.
In the end, Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, Vice Principal, expressed hes heart felt gratitude to Prof. Dr. S.K. Yadav, Prof. Saroj Yadav, Dr. N.R.. Sharma, Dr. Ramesh Sandhu, Dr. Rakesh Sandhu, Dr. Ramesh Inder Kaur Bal and other dignitaries and delegates who contributed their professional energies and outlook to make this conference achieve its objectives. The curtains came down with distribution of certificates to participants and a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sangeeta Sood, the coordinator of this Conference.
