International Women’s Day
The International Women’s Day, which was observed on 8th March, 2019 was celebrated at Partap College of Education, Ludhiana. Dr. Monika Verma, Principal, Sukhdeva Krishna College of Education, Moga was the chief guest of this occasion. The limelight was on the tireless works or activities of some women who have worked extraordinarily in their fields.
The chief guest was offered a floral welcome. The inaugural note was delivered by Dr. Balwant Singh, Principal, Partap College of Education, Ludhiana. He introduced her to the audience by highlighting her achievements in the field of education. Dr. Balwant Singh presented his views regarding this special occasion. He accented the importance of this day by saying that the celebration is being done only because no other species possess such plethora of attributes. History has written the efforts of woman in golden words. Whether in domestic field or in various other professional fields, women achieve pinnacle everywhere. He also told about women’s rights in every aspects of life and protested day-to-day crime committed against women. He emphasised that in order to empower women in a country like India, the government should make different policies and implement those. He also advised the girl students to be career conscious and economically independent. He quoted “Being a woman is the best way of being in the world.”
In her address, Dr. Monika Verma brought out the role of woman in family and society. She said that women’s day is to celebrate the achievements of women in various fields and also to express our respect, appreciation & love towards the most powerful gender. Focusing on this, she further added that on the one hand women is worshipped as a deity in the Indian society, however, on the other hand she is not given that honour which she deserves. She added that women play a dominant role in the society and also illustrated the achievements of Indra Nooyi, Kalpana Chawla and Mary Kom.
On this occasion, there were various events of celebrations and deliberations performed by the students of the college. Students, too, shared their views on woman empowerment and ongoing scenarios. A cultural show was carried out which emphasised the role of women in the society. The Program was concluded by proposing the vote of thanks by Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Vice Principal, Partap College of Education, Ludhiana.
